A couple of things! First, now that we are back in remote, there are assignments being posted on Canvas for the students to take care of. There is at least one assignment a week.
Next, let's get together and make some music! Each band will have a meeting next week where we will play through the music we have been working on in hybrid and remote classes. These are voluntary but highly encouraged. We will follow all of the district's COVID mitigation guidelines which align with the state and CDC guidelines. Students: make sure to bring your bell covers if they are at home. We have done this on a weekly basis very successfully with jazz band for a while now and we were also very successful during marching season and hybrid instruction. We grow musically and they are fun! The students understand how we can do this smartly, safely and musically! Sorry parents: only students allowed. Following are the when the rehearsals will occur:
Freshman Band-Dec. 16, 6-7:20PM. Enter through the back band room door with masks on. Rehearsal in the band room.
1st hour Band-Dec. 17, 6-7:20PM. Enter through the back band room door with masks on. Rehearsal in the auditorium (playing in the seat area-only percussion on stage).
RAIDERS HELPING RAIDERS! Every year, the band, orchestra and choir collect money at their Winter Concerts that is then given to the counseling center. The counseling department purchases gift cards that are distributed to South families that need some financial help through the holiday season. Every year, our donation totals have increased as has the need. This has grown so that over 50 families are helped each year through Raiders Helping Raiders. As we can all imagine, the need is even greater this year but the collection is more of a challenge. What the band is going to do is let the students make donations on the two rehearsal nights that are mentioned above and/or you can make a donation through the South Orchestra's PayPal account at this address.
I just did it and it was very easy and quick....and I feel good helping our South community! Thank you for considering making a donation! Thanks to Matan White who got the ball rolling by making the first donation this morning during the Wednesday morning percussion ensemble practice!
