Welcome back to second semester and hybrid!
Yeah Chiefs! and here we go with the new semester! I’m really looking forward to seeing many of you as we move to hybrid instruction. As I write this, there are some guys putting up our two enormous 98” screen video monitors! Those will be fun and useful! A warning, it is chilly in the band room…I mean, often in the low 60s, so dress for it. I’ve seen lots of teams of people in here trying to fix it but, so far, no luck.
We will start the semester by working on the music you currently have in Smartmusic but new tunes will be added soon. Sheet music will be provided for in-person rehearsals. If you are in Concert or Symphonic Band, there are new Smartmusic classes to join. The new code is in a module on your new class card. Much of the music we play this semester will be available on Smartmusic. If it isn’t, PDFs of the music will be made available to in-person and remote learners.
If you have any band music from the Spring or rented marching band instruments, please bring the up to school so I can inventory them. In-person people, just bring them to class. Remote folks, drop them by the high school in the near future. You can take them to the main office or let me know you are coming and I can open the back door to the band room during seminar or after school.
We will release dates for some concerts soon and there will be a virtual Solo and Ensemble Festival as well as State Large Ensemble festival in the Spring. Expect some evening rehearsals for all groups so we can get as close to the entire class together as we can. Sym band will have regular evening rehearsals on Monday evenings.
All COVID mitigations will continue to always be followed. Wear those masks, bring those bell covers, wash those hands frequently, we will give the room a break every 30 minutes we play and don’t forget your puppy pad! Those are just some of them. I have been so impressed with how everyone has followed all of these rules so far this year. Let’s keep it going.
Time to make some music! I am really excited to get moving on some cool literature with you guys!
