After a great little concert by the jazz band and percussion ensembles a couple of weeks ago, we can now add some more dates for everyone. Please get these on your calendars!
March 23-Masterworks auditions during seminar. This is for seniors who are competing for this opportunity.
March 25-3rd Quarter Mini-Concerts for all concert bands. Freshman Band performs at 6PM. Concert Band at 7PM and Symphonic at 8PM. Each performance lasts around 20 minutes. Students and audiences will only come for "their" concert. We will watch videos of all performances in class in the following days. Each student may have a maximum of 4 audience members come to see them. Details to come about the various restrictions we will be following.
May 11-Spring Concert-the format will be determined later as we see what restrictions are in place at the time but all concert groups will play that evening.
May 15-Evening of Jazz-again, we don't know exactly what this will look like, yet, but we will have a fun end of the year performance for our jazzers. Traditionally, this is a big event (and fundraiser) that benefits the entire band. Watch for details!
May 24-Graduation-I anticipate that the band will play for a live graduation. Traditionally, it is the symphonic band that plays for this. I will let you know well in advance if we do something different.
June 1 & 2-New Marchers Camp-This will be in-person and, for this year only, it will be for incoming freshmen AND current freshmen since they did not get much marching experience at all this year. The camp will be led by a team of this year's leadership and the new crew for next year. Times are 7:30AM to 3PM and it will be here are South. Drum line also works out during this camp.
July 26 & 27-Everyone who is in the 2021 band program attends these two days where we learn pregame. These are the students who will be in freshman band and those in 1st hour band. Times are 7:30AM to 3PM and it will be here are South.
July 28-Aug 4-1st hour band camp-we focus on the year's contest show during this week. Times are 7:30AM to 3PM and it will be here are South.
Watch for specific details but I just wanted to get this outline out to everyone. Things are far from normal but they are heading in the right direction! Please keep following all of the covid rules and mitigations so we can defeat this virus and move on to much better things! I am so proud of how all the students have handled all of this thus far. Keep it up!!!
Odds and Ends:
Shirts and Masks-A fair number of students have not picked up their Bandemic t-shirt and mask. If you paid your band dues, you get these things. That shirt will be a great memento of a terrible year! It really is cool and I see students wearing it all of the time. See one of the teachers to get yours. Parents-please let you student know if their dues are paid (almost all of them have been) so they feel comfortable coming up to get their shirt and mask.
Awards-We've distributed the awards from LAST YEAR to students in the band. If you can deliver to one of last year's seniors or a former member of the band, please see Mr. Adams so we can get those out to those that earned them. We will get them out one way or the other but if you can help, please do.
Music from Last Year-we are still missing a lot of concert music from last year. Please turn that in so that those great tunes are playable by future bands. If you have contact with graduates or former band members that may have some of that music, please reach out to them and get the music back for us. You can just leave it on the music tables outside the band room. Thanks for the help!
Senior Pictures-We are collecting pictures from our seniors band careers to make the end of the year video. Look for elementary, middle school and SMS photos that are band related and where it is easy to see your and other awesome faces! You can get these to Anna James or one of the teachers. We want to make sure ALL seniors are represented!
