THIS POST HAS BEEN UPDATED. MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE ARE NOT TO REFER TO NEXT WEEK AS "CAMP." IT IS TO BE CONSIDERED "CONDITIONING" WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE GOING TO BE DOING. WE ARE WORKING ON MUSICAL AND MARCHING FUNDAMENTALS AND SKILLS, NOT WORKING TOWARD ON CONTEST DRILL AND MUSIC. THERE ARE ALSO SOME OTHER MINOR CHANGES IN THE TEXT THAT FOLLOWS. THE BIGGEST BEING THAT THE MATTRESS SALE HAS BEEN POSTPONED.
We are on for next week! This won't be a traditional camp and we won't call it a camp-it will be music and marching CONDITIONING. We will have an abbreviated schedule on Monday thru Friday, the week of Aug. 17th from 9-11AM each day. This will be for all band members-1st hour and 5th hour, in-person learning and virtual learning. Attendance, while highly encouraged, is voluntary. This is not for a grade! All sessions will be outside. If it is a rainy day, check this or google classroom to see if we need to cancel that day.
A number of considerations:
-Bring a music stand. Everyone has to use their own stand. The band doesn't have nearly enough for everyone.
-Print off all music that was released on Google Classroom. We can't share music. We will focus on pregame and stand music along with the good old marching band warmup. You will need some clothes pins or something to hold the music to your stand.
-Bring your mask....and use it!
-Bring water in a marked or recognizable container-we can't share.
-Don't forget the sunscreen and tennis shoes (no sandals)
-Bring your instrument and take it home with you. We will have very little access to inside except for sousaphones and some percussionists and only for a short time for those people. We will not be using lockers during this week.
-Please do not carpool.
-Throughout the sessions, make every effort to maintain social distancing and anytime you might not be able to do that, wear a mask. Generally, wear a mask at all times when we aren't playing.
-We will meet in the stadium.
-New marchers will be just fine. We will work on music and fundamentals. You will learn as others review their skills. Your section leaders will give you extra attention so just let them know of any questions as we go.
-I'm not sure of all sports at this time but I know we do not conflict with XC or football.
-A recommendation is to make a cut in a mask just large enough for your mouthpiece so that you can play while wearing the mask. This mask will be IN ADDITION to the mask you wear when we are not working on playing activities. Yes, two masks.
-If you are not feeling well or have been in contact with anyone who has recently tested positive with the virus, please do not attend.
There will be at least one more message before next week so keep checking, Next week, Monday or Tuesday, I plan to have a zoom meeting for parents and students to go over anything else we need to know after we've been working for a day or two and we will need parents to vote on some booster issues. The boosters will share some of their news and we will have a brief presentation about some of their plans. UPDATE-the mattress sale has been postponed to a later date TBA later.
OK, so we have a plan and I am soooo looking forward to working with you guys and starting up The 2020 Rompin' Stompin' Raider Band! It will be different but this will be fun, you will learn a lot, and it is something we can all do together! We need everyone to be careful and committed to follow all of the safety guidelines because it is the responsibility of every one us to do everything we can to end this pandemic. If we do, then we can get out there to do some precision marching and make some music!!!
