We are making terrific progress in camp! The 5th hour members were with us for the first two days where we polished our fundamental marching skills, started to find our sound, and learned the entire pregame drill! I'm so happy with our newest members and the mentoring the older students have provided! Today, we put down 10 charts of drill and made huge strides in our music rehearsal. All this in our first spirit day! Insane costumes. Oh, and it is crazy hot but that has slowed us down. I'm impressed with the fortitude and work ethic of this band!!
BEACH PARTY
We have a well-deserved celebration Friday evening! We have our annual (well, not last year) Beach Party at Shawnee Mission Park from 6:30-8:30PM. We have the whole beach and shelter reserved! Wear your suit, if you want! The boosters will provide hot dogs and fixings and salty snacks. Students are asked to bring:
Freshmen: As our newest members, just come and enjoy!
Sophomores: Bring individually wrapped sweet stuff like cookies, brownies, gummy bears, etc.
Juniors: Healthy stuff! Bring bags of nuts or individual pieces of fruit like apples, bananas, oranges...that kind of thing. These can be a little more expensive so you might group together and split the cost.
Seniors: Drinks..cans or bottles of water or pop. We will have coolers with ice!
Anyone: balls, frisbees, music...whatever will be fun for everyone!
This party is chaperoned by members of the booster club and band teachers. This isn't a required event but we hope you can make it!
STRIKE UP THE BAND NIGHT
This event will be help on Tuesday, Aug. 3rd at 6:30PM in South's cafeteria. The purpose is for families to turn in the various required forms and fees that are part of participation in the band. You can save some time by doing most of the forms online or printing them off and turning in a hard copy. Here is where you can find them plus the explanation of fees. I will also give an update on camp and an overview of the coming year. A representative from the company that runs our annual Mattress Sale will also speak briefly. Please get the word out to as many people as you can about this 9/12 sale in the SMS gym! It really is a great way to pick up a superior mattress at a discounted price while supporting the band. Students can earn significant money for their individual account if they are listed as the student who referred a buyer to the sale. You will learn more about this at the meeting and through emails and posting you will be seeing, soon. Finally, members of the band will play a brief but energetic performance of music we have learned in camp!
UNIFORM FITTING DAY
Students should plan to come up to the band room sometime between 1-7PM on Thursday, Aug. 5. Most students have already been measured so their fitting should go pretty quickly. If you missed the measuring, the fitting will take just a little longer but still it will be a pretty quick visit. Please make every effort to get this taken care of because this is the day we have all of the volunteers available.
A note from our uniform co-chairs:
The band uniform committee needs you! We've got a big day planned on Thursday, Aug 5, from 1pm-7pm. We need lots of volunteers to help kids find a uniform that fits the best! It's a fun day to see them in decked out in uniform! Come meet parents and students and help the band get started this season! We meet in the auditorium lobby. See you there!!
See more details on the link.
Thank you everyone!
