We kick off the 2021-22 school year with New Marchers Camp next week. Because COVID forced this camp to be virtual last year, this year's camp is for incoming freshmen and next year's sophomores. Your drum majors and section leaders will teach the fundamentals of the South marching style and you will be introduced to South's pregame music. The hours are 7:30-11 & 12:30-3 both days. We intentionally have a nice long lunch break. You have three options: go home for lunch, bring a lunch.and eat here or go out with older students for lunch if OK with parents. Our student leaders understand the responsibility of driving the younger students and will be careful.
Things to bring to camp: comfortable clothes suitable for whatever the weather will be. Wear tennis shoes-NO SANDALS. Understand that the turf in our stadium can get very warm on a sunny day so prepare. Have sunscreen and water in a container with you name on it. Sun glasses and a hat are appropriate if you want. Of course, bring your music and any music you have printed off. We will follow Covid mitigations including social distancing and mask wearing. Students must wear a mask when not playing. Hopefully we can relax some of these restrictions soon...but not yet!
At the end of the camp is our band picnic at Meadowbrook Park from 6:30 to 8:30 on Wednesday night. The previous post shows you what to bring1
Evening of Jazz is Thursday evening from 6:30- to 8:30ish in the courtyard at SMS. Come see the SMS Jazz Band, The Southland Brass Band, and the Indian Woods Jazz Band! Its free! Bring a lawn chair!
A change: WE WILL NOT HAVE THE NEW PARENT MEETING NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT. WATCH FOR IT IN JULY WHEN CAMP STARTS UP AGAIN.
