I don't think it will come as a surprise to anyone but New Marchers' Camp which is scheduled for May 26 and 27 cannot be held in person in the band room and stadium at SMS because of the virus restrictions. In its place, the band staff, our drum majors and other student leaders will put together a virtual camp of zoom meetings and videos to teach our incoming members the fundamentals of marching in the South style, how to play the pre-game music and all about the traditions that bond this fantastic group together. We are all disappointed that we can't do it the usual way but it is on the teachers and student leaders to make it the best we can for the new members. We will also have a zoom meeting with incoming parents and members of our booster board the evening of May 26th. Please help spread the word to our incoming members and their families.
We are moving forward with plans for a traditional in-person camp for our July and August dates. Of course, we will respond appropriately to any restrictions that may be in place at the time from authorities. None have currently been announced.
Meanwhile, keep practicing those instruments, do those projects on Google Classroom and stay connected to other members of the band. Individually and as a group, come up with YOUR creative ideas to make the rest of this year and the one coming valuable, enjoyable and very musical!
