Great job to the band for doing a great job for the second week in a row at the football games. I'm so proud of your energy, big sound and willingness to follow all of the COVID rules! You guys are providing a great example of how to be involved, active and safe! Thanks to Jay and Bryn for keeping the band cranking!
There is no game this week! The following week is Homecoming against Olathe South. That will be a 7PM game where we arrive at 6:30. Dr. Johnson is trying to get permission for us to increase the number of students allowed to play in the band. We are currently limited to 50 and we had to turn some students away that wanted to play this week. Fingers crossed!
Both 1st and 5th hour are entering their third week of required music passoffs. Each song is worth 100 points and their value goes down 10 points each week that they are late. We are generally doing pretty well but many don't have everything that has been due passed off and some have none. You can check Skyward or Canvas to see how you are doing. I will try to update Skyward twice a week. In a normal year, most of our points are for performances but this semester, all performances are totally voluntary so these passoffs end up being a HUGE part of your grade. Get on it if you haven't already! It is easy to do. Honestly, at this point, every person that has turned in a recording has received full credit! You can do it!
As many of you know, a member of our band, Scout Matthews, is in a very talented and popular local rock band called Quite Frankly. Scout plays percussion in first hour and bass in jazz band. She's the bass player in QF. They are in the running for the title of Top Local Band in the annual Best Of KC competition sponsored by The Pitch Weekly. They are the youngest band ever nominated for this honor! Following is a link where you can vote to help Scout and her band.
