Here we are: the last week of football season. Our last Monday night marching band/pep band practice will be from 7-8:30PM in the stadium. It looks like it will be chilly so dress for it. Also, make sure to have clips to keep your music on your stand in case it is breezy. We will be giving out the new band shirts and masks to all who have turned in forms and paid dues (less than 20 still haven't taken care of that). We will also have them at the game and distribute when hybrid starts. If you are remote only, feel free to stop by during the practice Monday evening to pick yours up.
Our last game will be Friday night-arrive at 6:30PM in the stands. The band has done such a great job at these games! The seniors have been putting together a halftime show! They will each be introduced to the audience before the performance then on to the field they will go!. It hasn't been the marching season these guys expected but it is really cool that they have put in the time and dedication to put this show together all on their own! Sign-ups for the game will be Monday evening. If you can't attend the prax but want to play the game, contact Mr. Schapker to put you on the list.
GRADES-The good news is that the majority of students in both 1st and 5th hour are getting "A"s but there are students that are not doing well. As of Sunday afternoon, 8 students in 5th hour and 6 in 1st hour are not passing. Please understand that the grades are TOTALLY based on the pass-off assignments that appear on Canvas. I talk to the students every class period about this-we have repeatedly gone over how to turn these in. I also emphasize that these are not playing tests so much as just checking that the student is able to contribute to the sound of the band AT THEIR LEVEL OF ABILITY. Other than the fact that 10 points are subtracted from the 100 point assignments for every week they are late, the students have received full credit for very close to every recording turned in! The biggest thing is to just do it! When you turn an assignment in, I may provide tips on how to improve but you still get the points. Check your grade on Canvas or Skyward. If you are missing assignments, take care of it! There were a number of students that had failing grades at the start of last week but they sat down and turned in their assignments and now they have high "B"s or even an "A." You just need to turn on the recorder and play. If you need help, please reach out to me or a section leader. We WILL help you.
Hybrid starts next week! I'll send out another post later in the week to help everyone prepare.
