I’ve been updating grades this morning. I put in zeros for anyone who has not passed off pregame songs in 1st and 5th hour. This can have quite a hit on a grade. There are still lots of points available on all memory tunes so get with Jacob in 5th hour or your section leader in 1st hour and pass off any music you haven’t taken care of.
First hour did a really good job at the Blue Spring South marching festival this weekend. We dodged the rain and turned in a strong performance showing where we are at this early point in the season. Though we really weren’t going with competitive goals, the purpose was really to get feedback from the judges for our development from here on, we did place 6th in a strong field and were less than one point out of 100 behind 4th place and only about 8 out of first. Thanks to all our hard working students and all of the parents that helped us with equipment, chaperoning, snacks and drinks, uniforms and on and on!
We are 67th in the Overland Park Parade-the last band. 1st and 5th hour march together in this event. We will meet at 9:30AM this Saturday between 75th and 76th on Floyd which is the next street west of Metcalf. Students get to the parade route on their own with their equipment and uniform on. Plumes and water will be waiting for you.I will send out more details later this week to help you with parking because there is a lot of construction going on in the downtown OP area right now. The parade should easily be over by 11:30.
Finally, signups for District Band auditions are up in the band room. This is open to all grades and it is over the same music as our Symphonic Band auditions plus sight reading and major and chromatic scales. Audition requirements can be found on the band website, smsraiderband.org, then click on students, then auditions. It is tough to get in but very rewarding for those that do. Those who make District are qualified to audition for All-State. Note that it is called District which really means region. Our district band includes SM, BV, Olathe and other Johnson County schools.
