It was really fun to see students in their hybrid classes this week. Obviously, there are limitations to getting a complete band experience over webex, though we haven't been doing too bad on that platform. Simply said, you can't beat getting together and playing. I was very happy with the students' respect for our many COVID policies and great attitudes. We will do one more week focused on the marching season music then we will move on to concert music.
Very important: instruments should not be left at school after your in-person days. If you do, you are without an instrument for an entire week. Obviously, you will make zero progress if you do that.
Students who are auditioning for District (signups were in early October and are closed now), it is time to make and submit your recordings. They are due Monday night. You cannot submit later than that! Mr. Schapker has posted all the instructions and resources you might need on the Canvas homepage. If you have any questions, make sure to reach out to him. Don't put this off. Rarely is a last minute rush job representative of your best work. Good luck on your recording!
Symphonic Band audition cuts will be released late next week. Symphonic auditions are open to anyone in the program. The music, as announced since last May, is the same as the Kansas All-State and District Audition music. I will make further cuts to the excerpts listed here
We will post information on how to make and submit Symphonic Band auditions next week. Record and submit the second week of November. The recordings will be judged and the band will be announced the third week of November. Auditioning is completely optional but it is the only way to be invited into Symphonic Band. The first hour marching band is divided into 1st hour Symphonic Band and 2nd hour Concert Band during second semester. All remote students and 5th hour band members are allowed to try out for Symphonic. The counseling center will make any schedule changes required after results are posted.
We are entering the last week of the quarter. We do have some students that are behind on turning in their assignments which is reflected in their grades which can be seen on Canvas and Skyward. We talk about how to take care of this every day in class. Ultimately, your success in this and all of your classes is up to you. Take care of business! *A special note to Jazz Band: you have some BIG end of quarter projects that are worth a ton of points (reviews and scales). due at the end of the quarter You cannot get a good grade in the class without taking care of these with quality work.
Speaking of Jazz Band. We have a rehearsal tonight (Friday evening) from 6-7:30 in the band room. Per district policy during COVID, the rehearsal is not open to parents.
