Band Conditioning starts on Monday, Aug 17!
I can’t wait to see everyone! The weather forecast is great-much cooler temps and sunny!
If you haven’t read the previous post on the marching band GC page or the band website (click on “Band News” then “News from Mr. Adams,” for my posts), please do that to see what to bring and the COVID guidelines we will be following (OK, I put almost all of them here, again). I want to emphasize these points:
-These highly encouraged but voluntary sessions are for to all band members, grades 9-12 ,including virtual-only students. No grades are connected to this. There isn’t a “new-marchers only” day. Everyone, everyday.
-You should not carpool outside you "bubble."
-All work will be done outside. Only sousaphone players and some percussionists will be able to go in the room and just to briefly get and return equipment. We will not be storing any other instruments in the band room.
-As soon as you get to the stadium each day, check in with the parents who will be taking down your name and ask you some basic questions about how you are feeling and if you have been exposed to anyone who has tested positive recently. This is for contact tracing. Let’s hope we never need these lists! If you aren’t feeling well or have had contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID (or has reason to think they might), please do not attend.
-Bring your own stand and music-no sharing! The music is posted on the Marching Band GC. I’ve moved the post with the music closer to the top so it is easy to find. Look for the attachment, “Marching PDF.” It is also posted on “News from Mr. Adams” on the website. Look for the May 26th post.
-Bring your mask! We will be wearing masks at all times when we are not playing. A recommendation is to bring a second mask with a slit in it for your mouthpiece to use while you are playing. This is only to be used while we are playing. Wear your other one without the slit at all other times.
-Our work will be done at 4 step spacing. This puts students 7.5 feet apart from each other.
-Bring your own water and sunscreen. Wear comfortable clothes including tennis shoes (not sandals). Even though the temps are supposed to be nice next week, that stadium turf gets hotter than you expect.
-Reach out to other band members to make sure they have received this info and are aware of our sessions next week.
We will have a full group Zoom meeting (students and parents), Tuesday (8/18) at 6:30 PM. We will go over anything that we learn on Monday and Tuesday that needs to be shared, updates on the coming school year, COVID precautions the boosters and district are doing to make band even safer, an update on the booster club’s projects including info on this year’s 5K race, a vote to approve the booster budget and open Q&A. A reminder that our mattress sale has been postponed until January.
