Thanks to the 76 students that played in the pep band for Friday night's game against SM West. Also, thanks to everyone that shopped, to the 75 students that played in the pep bands and to the parents that supported those pep bands during the mattress sale on Saturday. The football game ended up being a rough loss but the band did its part and the mattress sale was a big success! I don't know exact numbers but it was either our best or second best sale since we started doing this. Thanks for getting the word out! This will be a nice pay day for the program. A special thanks to Donna Brandt who was everywhere with signs, banners, flyers, water and everything else to help make this sale a success!
First hour has the Blue Springs South Marching Festival this Saturday (9/21). Our performance time is 7:15 PM. We will meet at 3:30 at South in full uniform. The busses will leave at 4:30. We will have water and snacks but come to school fueled up...eat a late lunch/early dinner or bring a sack lunch. The schedule really doesn't allow for us to do a dinner there. You will be able to hit the concession stands after our performance. We should get back to South around 11PM.
Fans are encouraged to come cheer us on. Blue Springs South is at 1200 SE Adams Dairy Pkwy, Blue Springs, MO 64014. Tickets are 10.00 for adults and 5.00 for K-12 graders. The contest that we are entered in (there is another one during the day) goes from 6PM to 9:45PM featuring 14 bands. We've never done a contest this early in the season but the students have been working really hard to move up our usual season timeline. It will be great to get early feedback that we can use to prepare for the rest of the season leading to the Warresburg competition on 10/19.
We've been asked to pop in on the 50th Reunion for SMS Class of 69 on Friday evening around 6PM at the Doubletree Hotel in Corporate Woods. This is the first class to graduate that spent all three of their years at SMS. South was a 10-12 high school when it opened in 1966. This will be voluntary and it will be quick. We will just wear band shirts or South garb, play a couple of tunes and get out of there. This is simple for us but it will mean a lot to these people that established South as a very special high school so long ago. We will talk about details in class
